We are looking for candidates with a strong research background and
agenda in one or more of these fields to contribute to a new research
theme in theDepartment of Computer Science. Our ambition is to allow
Swansea University to take its place among the best computer science
departments in the UK for this kind of critical and reflective study of
data and computing.
Applicants with research interests in thehistory of data and computing,
/broadly conceived/,are strongly encouraged to apply.
The Department of Computer Science already benefits from special
resources like
University’s History of Computing Collection
<https://collections.swansea.ac.uk/s/history-of-computing-
collection/page/welcome>
Technocamps <https://www.technocamps.com/>,
These two initiatives support our research, teaching and outreach to
schools, teachers and the citizens all over Wales. For example, History
of Computing has been a subject in the computer science curriculum at
Swansea since 1994, and we also offer an adult learning class. We are
creating a new BSc in Digital Technology in which critical studies of
computing issues will feature.
At Swansea, there is a diverse group of academics working across all
kinds of computer science and related subjects (e.g., media) open to
interdisciplinary research opportunities. Our Department has the
opportunity to develop and teach material related to the context and
impact of computing.
Please bring this opportunity to the attention of anyone you know who
might be interested.
The closing date for applications is 3rd September 2023.
Also, please feel free to get in touch with any one of us if you would
